Yes, this post is a day late. I was caught up in a project yesterday and did not break to post this entry. Apologies. Here it is.
There are people who earn money playing scavenger hunts online, also known as bug bounty. Some net a few extra dollars while others make their living this way. According to ZipRecruiter, the national average salary for a bug bounty hunter is $45,931. While that’s not a six-figure salary, it is a nice number when you consider that most bug bounty hunters work at home for whatever hours they want and in whatever clothes they like. The schedule is as flexible as needed. Bug hunting is the ultimate side hustle. It can serve to neatly augment a full-time job or bee done on a project basis. It’s all up to the bug bounty hunter.
Now that I have piqued your interest, I will explain what a bug bounty is and how people make money from them. We have all heard the phrase “a bug in the computer” or “a bug in the code”. It is simply accepted that computers/programs have bugs in them and thus will not function properly all the time. Many of the patches that we make to our software are intended to fix these bugs. Black hat hackers use bugs as methods of gaining access to systems or data. Some bugs cause systems to malfunction all on their own, under the right circumstances. I hope I’ve made the many reasons why organizations would be interested in finding bugs clear.
As expressed, the motive for finding bugs is to prevent accidental, incidental, or intentional misuse of badly written code. Organizations lose money when systems are charmed or go down as a result of a bug. It is often far less expensive to pay a bounty to people who discover a bug and report it than it is to spend internal resources on locating the bug. Tus, bug bounty programs. Dozens of organizations have formal bug bounty programs with public facing websites. Amazon, Android, Chrome, MIT, and others have formal bug bounty programs. Google has paid out over $12 million dollars in bounties according to an article by Ionut Ilascu.
So, if you are looking for a side hustle you can do at home, I offer bug bounty hunting for your consideration.
